Shumard Oak

Shumard Oak

Quercus shumardii - #25

Gifford and Cornelia may have planted this tree in the early 1900s, based on its maturity and the fact that it is so far north of its native southern habitat. It grows moderately fast and every 2 to 4 years produces acorns that are used by wildlife for food.

This oak makes a handsome shade tree, and its wood is superior to that of most red oaks.
